Master of the Royal Household in Scotland
As Master of the Royal Household in Scotland, the Duke's hereditary offices include that of "Keeper of the Great Seal of Scotland".
The title dates back to 1464 the Earl of Argyll was made guardian to the nine year old King James III and has been held by each Argyll ever since. The duties of the Hereditary Master of the Royal Household in Scotland are now just ceremonial.
